If you are using Windows 7 u can use it to create partition then it should have no problem. If you are using Windows XP only you will need to use an application to align the harddisk first before using it

BTW if you want to use the WD Green version you may need to change the parking idle time as well. You can have a look in http://www.synology.com/support/ ... ng=enu&q_id=407
